Civil rights generally involves a citizen against the government for a wrong the government has done against the citizen in violation of our Constitution. Also, violations in other areas which have been mandated as most serious, such as racial or gender discrimination. At times, a citizen can violate another citizen's civil rights as well. Thus, civil rights litigation can encompass matters such as police brutality or the wrongful denial of various rights by the government. Yet, many employment cases in the private sector may involve civil rights litigation. In essence, civil rights law touches us all and touches the raw nerve of being American.
Over the past 14 years as a lawyer I have successfully
represented clients in civil rights litigation. Throughout my web site
I have not made mention to specific cases, in large part, in deference to
clients and not to push the limits of being a braggart. A civil rights
case, however, in which I prevailed, was published in the official reports
of the U.S. District Court. As such there is no secret or confidence about
it whatsoever. Moreover, it is has been of interest to many others. As
of 1999, the case was followed in published decisions of the U.S.
Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Court, and the California Court
of Appeal. Additionally it has
been cited in 23 law journals and law reviews: The case involves
a classic American clash between church and state. If you feel you may
find this of interest I offer it HERE.
